What You Need to Know About Pool Pebble Sizing

Over the years, we have lerned that there are three very important factors when choosing the right size of pebbles. They are:

  • The ease of walking barefoot
  • Size of the pool and the surrounding landscape
  • Size of any gaps or walkways

First, most people want to feel free to walk on the stones surrounding their pools. This means that they are looking for stones that are rounded, uniform, and definitely smooth. Our premium Mexican beach pebbles is the perfect choice. These rocks have been smoothed by the Pacific ocean for the millennia, which means that they are safe for your feet (and also the paws of your beloved pets).

Due to these reasons, the most popular sizes of Mexican pool pebbles are 1-2″ and 2-3″. Once in a while customers also choose size 1/2-1″ pebbles, but those are typically reserved for smaller pools. Which brings us to the next factor…

Landscaping Pebbles and the Size of the Pool

Second, our customers typically take into acocunt the size of the pool and the height and width of any surrounding plants. Here the rule is simple: the larger the pool, the larger your pebbles. Since most pools must fit within certain zoning regulations, a safe bet for a medium sized pool are size 1-2″ pool pebbles. If the pool is very large, then our size 2-3″ pebbles might look the best. And if you are lucky enough to have an enormous blue sparkling pool, then size 3-5″ beach pebbles could be installed around it in an artistic manner.

On the other hand, a smaller pool (such as many fiberglass options) generally calls for smaller pool pebbles. Our 1/2-1″ stones have been used by numerous homeowners to create awesome pool areas that gather numerous compliments from their neighbors and friends.

Thirdly, if you have any gaps within the concrete surrounding the pool, you will want to match the size of pebbles so that they fit easily. This advice applies to pool area designs that use concrete slabs or stamped concrete with spaces or walkways in between. We always recommend to choose pebbles that are one size smaller for the best fit. For example: if your spaces are 3 inches wide, we recommend beach pebbles in size 1-2 inches.
