Coronavirus Covid-19 Update

We Are Open and Shipping Nationwide

Yes, we are open! In fact, under California’s Covid-19 plan, our company was allowed to remain open for most of spring. California is following a 4-stage reopening plan. Currently we are in stage 2 (essential businesses, retail, manufacturing and logistics open with limitations). We are moving toward stage 3 (higher risk workplaces open and fewer limitations). Beaches are also reopening, and life is slowly returning to a more normal pace.

Beach pebble orders are coming in, and we are thankful that the overall economic climate is improving. Our employees once again are preparing and shipping orders nationwide, both truckloads and pallets.

Covid-19 and Shipping Orders Across the U.S.

At BMBP we are closely monitoring federal and other states’ Covid-19 restrictions in order to respond and adjust as needed. We are happy to report that, so far, freight delays have been minor. All transportation companies have been classified as “critical infrastructure workforce.” Therefore they have been allowed to work. Of course, with employees working from home, extra sanitation, and other safety measures, some freight delays were inevitable. However, all freight routes are open, and we are able to ship beach pebbles to any destination within the U.S.

River rock shipments to our established customers along the regular routes are largely completed without delays. We are able to provide the same excellent product, service, and delivery that our customers are used to.

BMBP Coronavirus Precautions

Even though the Coronavirus situation is improving, at our BMBP yard and offices we continue to observe strict safety measures. Disinfecting, thorough cleaning, and distancing are givens. In addition, we have limited yard visits to appointments only. We also ask that all visitors, workers, and drivers wear face masks at all times. We do not accept payment transactions in cash. Whenever possible, we process all paperwork online in order to avoid handling the actual “paper.”

When delivering, we ask that both our drivers and customers wear masks and observe proper distance. The distancing requirement is usually easy to observe since beach pebble deliveries do not require close person contact.

Again, if you need to visit our rock yard, we ask that you:

  • Make an appointment
  • Wear a face mask
  • Maintain your distance
  • No cash or papers

Coronavirus Epidemic in Mexico

Since our beach pebbles come directly from the beaches of Baja, California, we are closely monitoring the safety situation in Mexico as well. Unfortunately currently Mexico is one of the hotspots of rapidly spreading Coronavirus cases. The country’s socioeconomic situation (a large number of people living in poverty and working as street vendors), insufficient hospital capacity, and corruption make it uniquely susceptible to Covid-19.

The little bit of good news is that BMBP operations are located far from large cites. They are quite literally in the middle of nowhere. Due to the remoteness of Mexico pebble beaches, the Covid-19 situation there remains much better than most of the country. Of course, we do not take this relative safety for granted. Once new pebble shipments arrive into the U.S., we leave them untouched for several weeks to reduce any chance of infection.
