Mexican Beach Pebbles and Pets

Once in a while our customers ask: Are your beach pebbles safe for my dog / cat to walk on? The short answer is: Yes! Or Mexican beach pebbles have been smoothed by the ocean waves for hundreds and thousands of years, and they do not have any sharp edges. You are welcome to walk on them barefoot just like you’d walk on sand and pebbles at the beach. Beach pebbles are also safe for your animal friends to walk on: dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits etc. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that pebbles will warm up if the weather becomes very hot. This is exactly the same things that happens at the beach.

Very Small Pebbles and Pets

Our Mexican beach pebble rock comes in a variety of sizes from the smallest (mm-sized) to boulders. If you choose a very small size (such as 1/4″ or smaller), it will slightly shift under your feet as you walk on it. The same will happen to your pet depending on its size. However, even in the smallest sizes all of the tiny pebbles are smooth. They do not have any sharp edges, so your pet’s paws will not be harmed.

Rain and Ice – Pebble Safety for Animals

Another important question often asked by our customers is: What about rain and ice? How slippery do beach pebbles become? The answer is that beach pebbles become quite slippery when wet (because they are very smooth). Thus, we humans need to exercise caution when walking on wet pebbles. Our pets are usually naturally cautious and adjust their steps instinctively, so usually there is no need to worry about your dog or cat slipping on wet stones. The same is true for icy conditions – pets are usually safe when walking on icy pebbles. However, any such walks should be short to protect their sensitive paws from exposure to cold temperatures. Your dog or cat will usually let you know when it is time to get back inside by demonstratively lifting their paws and trying to guide you toward home.

Mexican Beach Pebbles for Landscaping

Because of their versatility and safety, Mexican beach pebbles are used for all types of landscaping. Some of the more common ways our customers use beach pebble are: ground cover, decorative accents around plants and trees, walkways, around pools and water features, and dry rivers. One of the fastest-growing beach pebble landscaping trends has been lawn replacement with pebbles. Another increasingly popular use of beach pebbles is to place them as a decorative top-coat on flat roofs. Yet other customers create colorful mosaics, outdoor or indoor showers, and mini zen-gardens with Mexican beach pebbles. Truly, the uses of our Mexican river rock pebbles are endless, and the only limits are those of your imagination!
