Mexican Beach Pebbles for Pools
One of the most popular uses of Mexican river rock (beach pebbles) are for water features. These smooth, rounded pebbles are perfect for in and around pools as you can walk on them barefoot. This is one of the main reasons why customers typically choose Mexican beach pebbles versus locally mined river pebbles (such as Arizona river rock). Mexican beach pebbles are completely smooth, while the local river pebbles are not. In addition, beach pebbles are uniform in terms of size and color and thus aesthetically more pleasing.
In fact, smaller size Mexican beach pebbles are often called “Mexican pool pebbles.” We carry these stones in a variety of sizes and colors. The most popular sizes our customers choose are 1-2″ and 2-3″. The most popular color remains black (grey), although mixed pool pebbles are also popular.
Water Features: Water Fountains, Ponds, Rivers
Many customers also seek out beach pebbles to use them in a variety of water features. Water fountains are gaining popularity, both in wet and dry forms. While a “dry water fountain” might sound strange, it is anything but. Many are adorned with succulents of various colors, decorative grasses, and strategically chosen beach pebbles. The end result is a stunning landscape centerpiece that requires very little maintenance.
Beach pebbles are also great for ponds, such as koi ponds or other types of decorative water basins. A tip that many of our customers find useful is to use a less expensive type of landscape rock at the bottom of the pond (where it won’t be visible), and to place beach pebbles on the sides of the pond or other areas where you can see them.
Which Pebbles to Choose: Polished or Unpolished?
When it comes to water features, you are in luck! You don’t need to purchase the expensive polished pebbles to achieve the shiny, colorful look. This is because the natural (i.e., unpolished) stones will also look shiny when placed under water. Wet pebbles will also show their colors a lot more than in their dry state. In fact, when our workers pick pebbles at the beaches in Mexico, they always do it when the stones are wet. This is because it is a lot easier to tell colors and shades that way.
However, if your pebbles will be mainly dry but you really like that shiny, dark black look, you can achieve it yourself by sealing your river rocks after installation. Please keep in mind that we do not guarantee any results of this process as it is DIY. For more information on how to seal your pebbles, feel free to contact us here or drop us a quick note here.
